这张“Porta VIII”是基于Maurice Maeterlinck(1862-1949，比利时剧作家、诗人，曾获1911年诺贝尔文学奖)的神话故事“Ariadne et Barbe Bleue”（Ariadne：阿里阿德涅是希腊神话中国王 Minos 的女儿，曾给情人 Theseus 一个线团，帮助他走出迷宫），唱片“Porta VIII”继续讲述了这个神话。专辑为严谨和正统的新古典乐风，精妙的管弦乐配器，以诗歌为蓝本的歌词，以及空灵的女声演绎。雍容而华贵，优雅而从容，让人迷失在他们的音乐里。

这就是 neo-classical 巴洛克式的密集繁复而优美的音乐，轻柔而宿命的女高音。有个陌生人说STOA使他联想到尼采的诗。……真想化作无形无重的物质，住在这音乐里，不再有思想，不再有欲望……

STOA 成立于1992年，并于同年跟 HYPERIUM 唱片公司签约。STOA 这个名字源自于斯多葛哲学（stoicism，古代哲学中最重要的哲学流派之一）。

Conny Levrow, STOA 的前女高音主唱, 接受过9年的小提琴训练、12年的声乐训练。她学得非常出色，并荣誉毕业。Conny 参加过好几个合唱团和交响乐团。同时她还是一名录音室歌唱家，许多古典音乐的录音室专辑里都有她的声音。目前 Conny 已离开乐队，由 Antje Buchheiser 取而代之。乐队还新添了一位出色的大提琴手 Christiane Fischer。

Olaf Parusel 曾经是世界上最古老的男童合唱团之一（Stadtsingechor Halle合唱团，有着880年历史）的成员。他参加过钢琴和声乐课程，目前正进修音乐科学和哲学。

STOA 乐队录制的第一首歌，发行于1992年秋天的《From Hypnotic to Hypersonic》合辑当中。从此 STOA 的音乐旅程起航了。他们的首张CD专辑《Urthona》发行于1993年4月，获得了很好的评价——不单止在德国，该专辑在墨西哥音乐排行榜达第59位，在墨西哥“New-Age”排行榜达第一位。该专辑中的音乐在香港和希腊被用作广告背景音乐（ECO石油公司）。

1994年11月，第二张专辑《Porta VIII》发行，也获得了巨大成功。1996年 STOA 乐队（跟 CHANDEEN 乐队一起）出席了一些现场演出。1997年春乐队跟大型合唱团和交响乐团同台演出。
